Wasn't this movie won Oscar??

I heard that 'Pather Panchali' won Oscar as the best foreign film. But it's not mentioned here. Why??

Satyajit Ray won an honorary Academy Award for his contribution to Cinema, in 1992, (for all of his films, not this one alone).

Pather Panchali competed for Academy Awards, the first Indian entry to Oscars. but it didn't win the the title. Indeed, Mr. Ray received life time achievement award from Academy Awards just few days before his death in 1992. However, it was the national award winner as well as the 'Best Human Document' from Cannes.

Pather Panchali wasn't sent to Oscars. The category "Best Foreign Language Film" was started only in 1957, two years after Pather Panchali released.
