At a recent concert by the cello quartet from Germany - quatrocelli - featuring music from movie soundtracts I learned that the classical Russian composer Dimitri Shostakovich wrote many soundtracks for the Russian film industry, including this film. And also he began his career playing the piano for silent films in Russia.

You can find a great many of these recorded -particularly, the suite for the film BELINSKY is one of his best - though I hear little of the score made it into the final film. If you are a Shosty fan, I highly recommend it.
