The Todd-AO version needs a restoration...

...watching it on DVD today it looked blurry, dirty in spots, artifacts appearing, etc. They better not make a Blu-Ray until it's done. Do you agree?

Ken K. :

I certainly agree. I was very disappointed when I bought the 2005 2-disc DVD set to find that the TODD-AO version (the reserved seat, initial release before the film went nationwide in its CINEMASCOPE presentation [disc 1] ) was a very poor print with all the blemishes you describe in your comment. Even in that state however you get the sense that the TODD-AO print is superior photographically to the CINEMASCOPE release. It must have been overwhelming to look at in the original Roadshow releases on the big curved screen. I do hope when the film gets a Blu-ray release that the TODD-AO version is included, and restored. I think OKLAHOMA! is , along with THE SOUND OF MUSIC , the best representation on film of Rodgers and Hammerstein's musicals, with THE KING AND I trailing slightly behind.

Done. Recently shown and now included in the Blu-ray version.

The blu ray of the Todd AO version looks MUCH better than the blurry DVD. I do feel the color could be pumped a tad, but detail is amazing! And now it's DTS 7.1 surround sound with good bass. Now this time the Cinemascope version pales in comparison (the DVD set, it was the other way around).
I got this Rogers and Hammerstein blu ray set for sixty bucks on Amazon. Oklahoma should be sold on its own later this year. Oklahoma is why I got this set. The other titles around are still a treat though.
