Is it true that this might be coming out as a Criterion release on DVD?

It's true ... that it might be

Thelma Schoonmaker, Michael Powell's widow, mentioned it in LA (25 January 2008, when she introduced Bluebeard's Castle and The Tales of Hoffmann) as a hoped for release with Criterion.

This film has never been shown in the cinemas or television in my country in my lifetime.

It may have been awkward or bad but the many interesting performers in the cast makes me so curious!

Which country is that then Jamal-Nazreddin?

Here in the UK, where it was made, it has only been shown on TV once and after it's initial release it has only been shown occasionally, very occasionally, in the cinema. I've seen it a few times at film festivals and other special screenings that focus on the films of Powell & Pressburger

A lovely place. Powell's elder son lives there.

As for Oh... Rosalinda!!, it hasn't been seen in many places anywhere in the world after its original release.

A shame, because it is quite well done. It's not up to the standards of The Red Shoes, but not much is

They set the bar very high with The Red Shoes. But if Oh... Rosalinda!! is just considered on its own merits then it's a perfectly adequate film. A clever updating of Die Fledermaus to set it in post-war (WWII) Vienna with the city controlled by the 4 powers (America, Britain, France & Russia) and "The Bat" (Walbrook) flitting between the four powers, running a few scams and playing a few tricks.

That's all done as an operetta

It's also all done in CinemaScope which gives them the wide screen to play with, but doesn't give much depth. There's one scene where they make particularly good use of the wide screen, with 3 groups of people along a balcony. Rather than cutting between them they can have all 3 groups on screen at the same time

Looks like it has been uploaded to youtube more than once.
