Mitchum and Grahame and the wild horse scene

The scene where Mitchum and Grahame had sex, I think we are to presume they had sex, and the horse was in heat and going wild- that is one of the campiest scenes I have ever seen. The next scene he drives by his house- are we to assume he never went home that night? This whole scenario seems a little too racy for the Hays Code that was in place at that time. The best scene and most realistic was when Mitchum complimented his wife for helping him save the old mans life and told her what a great nurse she was- she realizes for the first time that his love for her was only admiration for her as a nurse, not as a woman or a wife. that hurt her so terribly and her reaction was so well acted. if not for DeHaviland the movie would not succeed.
