Betty Garrett who played Eileen was actually 8 yrs older than the Janet Leigh who played Ruth yet Janet looked way older than Betty and played the spinster to her young ingenue?

I don't think Janet Leigh looked older than Betty Garrett in this film.

Shanehaynes has it backward. Janet Leigh, not Betty Garrett, played Eileen. Janet, not Betty, was the ingenue.
