Extremely Slow and Plodding!

Although a fairly different plot, the whole film was extremely slow and plodding! Nothing really meaningful in the plot, just long periods where nothing much happened.
I just kept thinking that when Avery (Duryea) first took over and retired to his tent, all Hook (Keenan Wynn) and his gang had to do was blast away at it until Avery was dead. They could then help themslves to the gold (and water) and ride away.
Hook and his men had no beef with Everett, so riding away in one piece was their best option.
