Deal breaker - Spoiler Alert

I'm not a big fan of this movie but I like that it deals with the issue of women working after marriage.

People like to think of the issue in terms of women's equality but what about the family? Casey was right to make Lucy's refusal to stop working a deal breaker. Running a home and raising children is a full time job - even today with all our modern time-saving conveniences. Lucy would not have had any of those things.

Certainly she could have hired help for her around the house but what about the children? I'm always amazed how quick people are to outsource that job just as they do with the basic household chores even though it's not the same.

Just about anyone can clean your house or wash and iron your clothes, but before you let someone take care of your kids, you need to know them on a deeper level. It's not only a matter of safety or how they treat your kids. If they spend enough time with them, their attitudes, values, and behaviors will rub off on them too.

It's no wonder we have so many problems in society. A lot of kids feel ignored and neglected by their, far too busy, parents from early on in their lives. I realize for some families, having two working parents is more a necessity than a luxury but those families were never the ones at issue.

What's curious is when there is an option and people choose to have more things like bigger homes, more cars, better clothes, fancier trips, or a business, like Lucy, rather than spend time raising and being with their own children and families.

Woman, man! That's the way it should be Tarzan. [Tarzan and his mate]

Why couldn't Casey, the husband, do all that?
