Just watched this movie last night on TCM. This is a very, very good movie. Miss Day and Mr. Cagney BOTH deserved oscar nominations. Their performances are absolutely top notch. WOW.

The chemistry between the two was excellent as contrasting individuals. They gave so much to their roles that it was brilliant to watch.

"I'd rather be hated for who I am, than loved for who I am not".

Love both of them. The character that Cagney plays is such a jackass- and he does it so over the top to make him totally unlikeable.

Cagney got Doris the part. They'd worked together in "The West Point Story", and became friends.

When Jane Russell was suggested for the part, Cagney pushed for Doris Day. I'm so glad. Doris is twice the actress Jane Russell was and 50 times the singer.
