I never really realized what a beautiful woman she was, and she is completely gorgeous in this movie.
The other thing is that she's an excellent dramatic actress. Doris Day never gets the kudos she deserves. Tons of talent there.
This is certainly the high water mark in Doris Day's career. She is absolutely lovely here, is singing wonderfully (considerably better, I might add than Etting is on my recordings), and acting superbly. It should also be noted that Cagney's performance is brilliant and comparable only to the one he gave in "Ragtime".
Only two things are actually knowable:
It is now and you are here. All else is merely a belief.
I wasn't fond of her 'look' in this; she had a hard look that isn't present in her cute, bubbly movies. The hardness detracted from her appearance, but that's just my opinion.
