M.S. nightclub

Is the nightclub bought and renovated by Marty a Hollywood invention, particularly to justify a closing song, or was there one like that really? If so, what happened to it? The "jinx" mentioned, and if Marty was anywhere near as volatile and spendthrift in real life as portrayed in the film, would lead me to believe it would close quite quickly after a flashy opening.
