the Score

For a long time I refused to see this film because I just can't stand the Song "Love is a Many Splendored Thing". it was like fingers on a chalkboard to me.
but anyway. I finally decided to see it because I becoming a really huge Jennifer Jones fan and I want to see as much of her work as I can, when I can. so I watched it and I still hate the song and they overused the instrumental version of it. but other than that I really liked the musical score. I absolutely loved the music that was playing when Jennifer Jones character went to see her family in China and it flowed so well with the scenes. as well the music and sound quality during the fortune telling scene. after hearing the rest of score I concluded the score probably did deserve the Oscar it got.

BTW I also thought the Cinematography was pretty good too.

The title song won the Oscar for best song over Alex Morth's Unchained Melody. Which song has stood the test of time?

Unchained Melody is a much better song.

any song would have been better than Love is a many splendored thing.

but I never understood a lot of songs or scores that won the Oscar. I don't see how "Born Free" was a better choice than "What's it all about Alfie" I guess because it comes down to someone's subjective taste.
