Do you remember Fred Foy?

The announcer and narrarator from both the radio and the television series is still with us. Fred Foy is a true American Legend. Who can forget his wonderful intro...."A Firey Horse with a Speed Of Light A Cloud Of Dust And A Hardy HIGH HO SILVER"..... He is one of the last big names from the golden age of radio. I had him on my radio show a few weeks back. He shared some wonderful stories dealing with those early day's .

He told me that he was in Armed Forces radio when he was in the service during WW2 in Cairo Egypt. A lot of the big radio stars would pass through and visit the troops. Fred was the American voice in Cairo. When Jack Benny came through, he desided to do his national radio program live from Egypt. However his announcer, Don Wilson did not make the trip. Jack asked Fred to step into Don's shoes and be his announcer. Fred said he had a great time and Jack Benny was simply a wonderful guy.

Here's something for the history nuts. Fred did the announcing and narration for one summer on, "The Green Hornet". Fred Later went on the become the announcer on the legendary, (Dick Cavett Show). At a recent gathering of radio historians, Fred Foy was voted the most Recognized voice in radio history. In 2000 he was voted into the Radio Hall of Fame.
