First Lone Ranger Movie?

I remember going to the matinee show (it had to be 1958ish)and watching the "first" Lone Ranger movie with Clayton Moore and Jay Silverheels. What I remember is the story line started with the killing of the 5 rangers and Tonto helping Lone Ranger (you know the story). I remember it being in color, and it was more of a film production than a TV production(you know the difference). Searching to buy a DVD, I've seen one that states it is the first 3 episodes from the show, another saying it is the first but no mention of the origin of the Lone Ranger. What film did I see?? Thanks, Roger

Sounds like you saw The Lone Ranger and the Lost City of Gold (1958), which is the second of two feature films starring Clayton Moore as the Lone Ranger and Jay Siverheels as Tonto. The first, simply titled The Lone Ranger, was released in 1956. Both films are available on DVD.

The movie that whoolph must have seen was 'The Lone Ranger Story' (1955). It was composed of the first three episodes of 'The Lone Ranger' TV series from 1949. It does portray the killings of the 5 rangers which sets the Lone Ranger on his mission as an avenger.
