The camera doesn't move enough

When I watch a great Ophuls film like Le Plaisir it's easy to get caught up in the masterful camera movements. Here, the camera is still for an alarming portion of the runtime. There are more great tracking shots in practically any scene of Letter from an Unknown Woman than there are in this entire film. If I hadn't known this was an Ophuls directed film going in I never would have guessed it, though I might have thought he helped write it since the narrative framework is similar to some of his other films.

Anyway, this was a big disappointment for me, 6/10.

Did we watch the same film? The film is chock full of sweeping camera movements , tracking shots and long takes. Maybe you should watch it again, because for me it felt very much like an Ophuls film.

Actors are like cows. You have to lead them through a fence.
