Why does Aunt Sarah dislike Lady so much?

1. When Lady was looking at the baby from the crib, Aunt Sarah shoos her away and blames the baby waking up crying on Lady.

2. She blames the entire mess downstairs on Lady, when it was really the evil cats.

3. Aunt Sarah tells Lady to shut up when she barking about the rat (when Aunt Sarah should know that Lady is barking about something).

I chalked it up to her not being a dog person. The witch never gave Lady a chance.

A lot of people who're afraid of dogs take that anger and resentment out on the ones that are most loving and benign (and their fear causes mistrust and suspicion that causes them to interpret even the best of dogs to be bad). I imagine Aunt Sarah was one of those kinds of people.

reply

Aunt Sarah is just one of those crazy old lady multiple cat lovers. I hope her creepy cats didn't stick their raspy tongues in the kid's milk!!!

reply

Cat people are not to be trusted

reply

Indeed! Most cat people do not like dogs and think cats are the best thing on earth. Its a shame because I dont find dog people like that, I much prefer dogs, always have, but I dont hate cats.

"What, you don't like rice? Tell me Michael, how could a billion Chinese people be wrong?"

reply

I love dogs AND cats.
In fact, I love everything on four legs (except, maybe, rats).

I would hate to burst that bubble of ignorance that you love to live in, BillyBarule. But I'm both a cat person and a dog person. I love both.

reply

Same here. I adore cats and dogs; both are wonderful, magnificent creatures. I am much more of a dog person (they're my #1 favorite animal, followed by fishes), but I have no prejudices against felines...and I really want one. :3

Not as sure as to why, but I have to assume that she is more of a cat lover then a dog lover. But I don't recall anything in the movie, that points out why this is. After all she comes in, after she arrives she has the basket that the cats are in, so she might not have been aware that they had her. Also don't forget that she brought in Lady to a pet store for them to put a muzzle on her, and with a human like Aunt Sarah I wouldn't blame Lady for running away, and then she even had her in a dog house outside. And the saying does say that man's best friend is a dog, and not a woman. So which just leads me to believe that she is more of a cat lover then a dog lover, but I don't remember anything explained why she hated Lady so much.

Eh, I usually just consider man to be the general term really for men and women. If things were like that, there probably wouldn't be any female dog lovers because women wouldn't be considered to be as big a fan of dogs as men.

I just doubt she was much of a person that likes dogs. After the events of the film that you listed, when it opens onto the Christmas scene, it's said that she sent dog biscuits so maybe she grew to like dogs more after seeing that they aren't all that bad.

reply

Yeah, I guess that she came around in the end. But if you're not familiar with dogs, it will be hard for you to take care of them. For example, since I grew up with cats, but not with dogs, dogs can actually scare me some times.

I wasn't afraid of our dog when I got married and suddenly had one (came with the package... husband, ring, Jeep, house & dog); I loved her dearly, but it was intimidating having one... she had to be walked and let outside to go to the bathroom (although as a kid our cats always had their litter boxes in the garage or a screened in back porch - they just didn't seem to need to go out as often); and since we didn't have a fence in the beginning, someone had to go out with her.

Later, after she'd lived a full and loving (and loved) life we adopted a puppy. Puppies are a LOT more work to train than kittens.

Like I said in my last post, we always were a cat family. But when my sister first met her husband, they still had a dog in his family. And he was rather big too, as he was part labrador retriever and part border collie. But my sister never had to take care of him, even if she liked him well enough. But I suppose that you can learn how to handle a dog, if you feel that you have to.

There's only one (female dog) in this movie, and it ain't Lady

reply

I agree that she was a cat person so she couldn't have appreciated Lady that much. The funny thing is, I know some dog people who like cats, but it doesn't work the other way around, Most cat people hate dogs.

reply

Not in my experience. My Mom just isn't a 'pet person', although she did like the cats we had, and after I married liked our dog. My Dad was a dog person, but really liked our cat when I was growing up - they had a special relationship (knowing that the rest of us slept like logs, on the few instances when Midnight absolutely needed to go out to the garage to use his box he would sit on my Dad's chest and stare at him until Dad woke up). My sister is firmly in my Mom's camp, but my brother and I are firmly entrenched as cat people. That being said, we've owned three dogs since I married and I loved them all - and they got along marvelously with our cats. My brother even let one of our dogs sleep with him when we were visiting. There's really only one dog I've met that I didn't like. My Dad & Step-Mom had a black & tan mini-dachshund that didn't like that my sister and I were higher on the totem pole than she when we were around. She would growl and bark anytime we entered the room and try and chase us away if she came into a room and we were sitting with him. We referred to her as our half-bitch.
