Sound effect at the end (SPOILER?)

Is this the movie where the "Pandora" box emits a kind of distorted scream at the end? If yes, does anyone know how it was produced?

I saw this as a kid and was very impressed by that sound. Actually, it's almost the only thing I remember from the film.
