Why Wasn't Hammer Banging Any of the Babes?

Maybe because it was made in 1955?

We're meant to understand that Mike is "banging" Velda. They didn't have to spell it out; it's obvious from the dialog and the way they behave around each other.

Indeed.

He should've at least hooked up with the blonde from the party.

Part the era maybe and part to establish an even greater hyper masculinity. He was such a great fisherman he could afford to throw the fish back at will because there was always another around the corner that would hop right in the boat. No need to get desperate as it would be there whenever he got around to wanting it.

Probably because he was too busy being a p$ick!

This movie really surprised me! Classic B-movie noir, till that scene where he got the guy's fingers caught in the drawer, and held it there... and held it there... and held it there... all the while as the girl screamed her wits out. That took it right into the stratosphere!

I know this thing had 50s censorship problems, but how did that torture scene stick around? Glad it did. Amazing!

Then when I put that together with a few other scenes, like when he punched out the guy and sent him down a thousand stairs, I realized we were watching a classic here.

Too bad there wasn't a series with this guy, Meeker. Talk about HARD boiled, barely-likable p$ick!

He was (at least Velda) - it's just that being subtle works best. Some nice eye-candy in this film, huh? Oh yes...

Hey there, Johnny Boy, I hope you fry!

Hammer was too busy investigating the case and hoping to make a big score after he figured it out to bother with having sex with all the women who practically threw themselves at his feet.

I've been chasing grace/ But grace ain't easy to find

I think these were the most overtly slutty ladies I've seen in a noire yet. One made a point of having him know she was a slut - something like "can we be friends? I have many friends". That's pretty crazy for back then, isn't it?

I loved it. There are a number of pieces to this movie that make it unique and unpredictable.

I took it that Velda was a sort of employee with benefits... for him!

I also figured he did bang Carver at least once. Didn't she spend the night at his pad & emerge in PJs? Going from memory here.

I figured he at least got Mr. Revello's sister's phone number... or maybe she was too easy for him. He seemed to like challenges. She might be a bit miffed that he killed her brother, too. Did you notice her nips showing prominently through her 50s dress? I liked little touches like that in this flick.
