Compare with Blowing Wild

I couldn't help but notice certain similarities with Blowing Wild, with Gary Cooper, Barbara Stanwyck, Anthony Quinn and Ward Bond. I'm not saying the movies were exactly alike. But certain aspects are certainly deliberate in the duplication of characters. Do the differences in the story make the similarities a coincidence or do the parallels make it more of a retelling with slightly different plot lines? I've read that it's based on Othello but since I've not read or seen the Shakespeare play I can only go with what I see.
