an outstanding film

I just watched this on TCM, and found it excellent in every way.

I'm aware that this is supposed to be loosely based on "Othello", but there is more to this than just a remake of Shakespeare in a different historical era.

I agree Wak. And in supporting roles Charles Bronson and Rod Steiger showed the promise that would make them big future stars.

Three actors in this film went on to work for Sergio Leone: Bronson, Steiger and Jack Elam. Borgnine and Bronson worked together several times (including VERA CRUZ and THE DIRTY DOZEN). Steiger and Bronson would work together again in LOVE AND BULLETS (1979).

saw jubal many years ago and have just watched it again. have always been a glen ford and rod steiger fan, and thought that the interplay between tghem was excellent. borgnine also made me laugh in his portrayal. a wonderful film.

I saw the film yesterday night on TCM. I fell asleep after Shep is killed by Jubal and Jubal is taken to the wagon train. How does it end from there?

This is one of my favorite westerns, period. I've the lobby card set to this, and they're all beautful shot, which is rare for a set. I love the trick Ford & Bronson do with the pistol.

I tried reading the novvel the film came from, but truth be told, Paul Wellman's books are downright dull. I never have seen what Hollywood did in his works. They always changed them quite a bit.

It is a loose adaptation of Othello set in the west. Well if you are going to steal, then steal from the best.
