DVD Commentary is OUTSTANDING

Nina Foch deftly aided by Film Historian, Patricia King Hanson, bring an outstanding amount of information as commentary to this great Robinson film. We were fortunate to have this because Nina passed not long after this release.

And it is never intrusive. The conversation which is led by Nina. Every scene is delved into, not just plot-wise but background information regarding the process of filmmaking back in the Studio System days, that I found refreshing and delightful! She talks about film technique, wardrobe, makeup, editing, blocking, props and script supervision! Now that's commentary to hope for every time!

I recommend this release, which is paired with another great, if not landmark noir, The Big Steal, with Robert Mitchum and Jane Greer.

RECOMMENDED!!!

I agree. I really enjoyed it. Nina is not only an actress but a film professor. I think she was a bit too critical of herself and the acting style and techniques of the era though. We love it all and THAT is why we watch.

Her anecdote about Jayne Mansfield's death was totally inaccurate though. A lot of those strange rumors went around at that time.

About those rumors, I guess she didn't fact-check herself. But I don't fault Nina. Those were different times, I would imagine.

I heartily agree on Ms. Foch commentary being insightful and so helpful to understand the film and scene production of that era. She has answered many a question that early actors struggle with. The film trivia kept me glued to the film at every moment. DVD's should be ALL like this in their 'special features'. Sadly no many are not. As a long time performer and producer, I found myself wanting to take her USC courses even at my semi-retired age.
