'Ain't Misbehavin'' - Fats weeps...

Out front - I love musicals of this vintage, I love GPB, I love Jane Russell and I hate threads that do nothing but demean a film but I just had to post this anyway. Somehow, I've managed to miss this film until now. (I've got a lot of films and viewing time under my belt, too.) Some of the reviews captured the crux of the problems (like Jane Russell being forced to do Marilyn) but this number in particular - holy cats! The two gals singing in a pot??? Alan Young holding the gorilla head throughout the song... Oh my... The visual design was fun - very "Lion King" but wow... I may give this another viewing just to see if it makes it onto my "camp classics" list. Or not.

I also just finished watching this one. I wholly agree with you, lorene-lavora. This is no "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes," is it? When the cannibal number came on, I thought, Wow, overt racism in Cinemascope! (These were far, far less p.c. times.)

The costly costumes, the lavish sets, the lovely on-location shooting--and to what end? I love musicals, I love piffle, but this is a big chunk of musical piffle that never really takes off.

The non p.c. Stuff didn't bother me. But Alan Young should have been shot. That's singing?
