Particular Scene

I have a vague memory of a movie I watched when I was younger and I've been trying to figure out what it was from. I'm wondering if it was from this movie.

It's a scene where a woman is walking through a park in the fog, and a creepy voice is talking to her. I think she's wearing a white fur coat, and at some point either she asks, or the voice volunteers, that he is "close enough to reach out and touch your coat," or something like that. I'm pretty sure that after this, the woman gets safely back to her house.

I haven't been able to find that scene, or any transcripts or quotes when I've searched online. Can anyone tell me if that was in fact from this movie, or if you know what movie it was from?

Thanks!

Have you checked out Midnight Lace where Doris Day was assailed by a terrifying mechanical voice in a London park? Can't remember what she was wearing.

Yes! That was it! Thank you! I found a clip of that scene online. I remember it really freaked me out when I was younger, so I wanted to watch it again so it could kind of lose its power over me. Thank you so much!!!

I seem to remember several of these from my youth. I definitely remember the name Midnight Lace (I think I have an entry on it in my diary as a 16 year old), then there was Gaslight, Fanny By Gaslight (an unfortunate title nowadays) and Footsteps In The Fog. In my mind's eye they all feature women being menaced by cruel husbands trying to drive them mad, and scenes where the woman takes a scary walk in the fog, and in a park. I know I've melded them all together there, but there did seem to be a fashion for movies of that tone.

Awight we're The Daamned we're a punk baand and this is called Carn't Be Appy T'day!

It's funny how that can happen - several movies having the same (or at least a similar) premise all at around the same time. I've been wanting to watch Gaslight for a while - I might need to check out the other movies you mentioned as well. Thanks!

You should definitely check them out if you haven't already.

Gaslight was great, but I bet it's been 10 years since I saw that one. I would love to see it again. The acting was very good throughout and the story was interesting. And Joseph Cotten was in it. He's one of my favorite actors of all time.

You must see Midnight Lace. I thought it was superb. That voice was scary! I have seen this one about 5 times, and it never gets old.

I have not seen Fanny By Gaslight and have no idea what it's about, but i'll bet you love the other two.

Officer Krupke, what are we to dooooo?!?

I need to see 'Midnight Lace.' I've never seen that one. I have the Joseph Cotten version of 'Gaslight' on DVD. Also a few years ago I saw the original British version of 'Gaslight.' That's very good as well. I have read that MGM wanted to destroy all the copies of the British version so that they could own the film title and idea outright. But obviously they didn't succeed in destroying the British version entirely.
