Which female was the title referring to?

It certainly wasn't alluding to Crawford. She looked more manly than Chandler.

I think all if them, Lynn, Eloise, Amy. Her haircut is chic for the time but too boyish. Her outfits and jewels in this movie are outrageously good though!

Meh...I don't think Crawford looked that bad. Her look in the 1950s certainly wasn't her best but I think that had more to do with the makeup and hairstyles of the time. The super short cuts that were in vogue were terribly aging on some women. I watched A Star is Born with Judy Garland recently and was surprised to discover she was only in her 30s when the film was made. While her drug use probably didn't help matters, that super short hair made her look matronly and at least 10 years older.

I think Crawford looks pretty good in this film despite the bad hair cut. She still had great legs and looked somewhat youthful. She wore some great outfits but most were hilariously over the top and out of place in a beach setting. The one film where she looked terrible is Torch Song. She looked scary and mannish throught that film but naturally, she was dressed to the nines.
