Was Crawford drunk?

In one scene, Joan (wearing shorts) actually scratches her butt in middle of scene for no particular reason. Not the sort of thing that adds to characterization or her glamor image; was this simply the best take that was available and director just figured to hell with it? Hard to believe she'd have allowed an unflattering shot like this to appear in a film when she was in her heyday. Hic!

Joan wasn't scratching her ass. She was warming her hiknee. While reading Eloise's book.

there was this scene whenn Joan wakes up and Jeff is fixing the railing. Joan has some baby doll's on and she stands up and pulls up her top to show her underwear and pulls up her pants... or fixes them. it was weird guess shew as either showing some legs (which were pretty) or show she had underwear on......

Joan Crawford was a very vain woman and would often use certain gestures and mannerisms to bring attention to her body or various parts thereof. I think she's scratching her ass in that scene to bring attention to her leg and/or ass -- either that or she just had an itch that needed scratching. More importantly, during that same scene I could have sworn I saw one of her balls flop out, and this was far more disturbing than an itchy ass or a butch haircut!
