That's good to know. Thanks.

You're most welcome.

I got it from Love Classic Movies for $24.00! The quality is pretty decent too!

reply

I take it you mean you got only Female on the Beach from LCM. Sorry, but why would you spend $24 for a "pretty decent" bootleg instead of less than $16 more (the set's sale price of $39.99) for four movies on first-rate, legitimate DVDs mastered from the original source materials? That makes the price of Female just $9.99.

reply

You're correct. It was just Female on the Beach, and it's not a bootleg. I was not aware of Female in the Beach being part of a four movie DVD set before I brought it. 24 might seem hig to you, but I've spent far more on more frivilous things.

reply

No, I understand, I've spent more on some things. It's not the $24 per se -- though that is high -- but it's still not an official copy and so its quality won't be as good as the disc in the set. It's too bad you didn't know about the actual Universal release sooner. But that sort of thing has happened to all of us at one time or another.

The DVD transfer is OK; DVDreview:

(Only the transfer of THE UNGUARDED MOMENT (1956) is horrible.)

You can now buy the film by itself from Amazon---it is manufactured on demand. No extras.

reply

Yes, as now are all the other titles in the set. Price is $19.99 each, plus tax where applicable. The entire set is usually on sale for for $39.99 at MU or TCM, so depending on what you want the set may be the better buy. Plus the films in the set aren't MODs.

Correct. But as far as I know the singles are only available from Amazon. TCM.com and MU don't carry them. And you're right, they are legit DVDs, not MODs. Amazon lists them all as MODs but when I got a copy of The Unguarded Moment from them it turned out to be a straight DVD.

The other weird thing is that when TCM runs its ads for the latest releases from the TCM Vault, then shows previous sets from the line, "Women in Danger" is prominently among those seen. I'm sure there are one or two others shown that are also now out of print.

Though if I may differ, a little Joan Crawford goes a very long way!

Well, differ I shall!

But you must have loved TCM's Star of the Month for this January (2014)!

Yes, you'd think they'd update the ads to reflect what's actually still for sale. But at least we can still get the singles...which, if you don't want two or three of the films in a set, may be just as well. For example, I've noticed that some of the films from early TCM sets of Columbia films have been released on the DVD-R Sony Classics line as singles, which I assume will also happen to titles from their more recent sets.
