This Movie is Wrong For So Many Reasons!

This must be the poster-child for bad Hollywood historical dramas. For Hollywood to take such an inspiring, and awe-provoking story such as the Lewis and Clark Expedition, and to turn it into nothing more than a contrived soap-opera, is beyond me - and is an insult to anyone with half a brain. Looking past the fact that it was terribly (and unbelievably) miscast, it has some very disturbing flaws. Perhaps the movie-going audience of the time were somehow more ignorant of the the true history of the expedition (which I seriously doubt, as we were a better educated people back then, at least in the basic facts of history - overlooking our society's racist tendencies, and the fact that history was viewed exclusively from the white man's perspective,) but that doesn't excuse the studio from turning this story into a farce. If anyone wants to see a more accurate examination of this story, and what it meant for America, get your hands on Ken Burns excellent treatment of the subject. Once you know the real story, you won't be able to keep a straight face when you watch this movie!

I also agree with paso. The shame is that it did have a good cast and had the potential to be a much better more historically accurate film.

Here's another reason. It's yet another in a long line of Hollywood films that purports to show friendship between the races while actually depicting the slavish devotion of nonwhite women to white men, their preference for white men over those of their own ethnicity, and, paradoxically, the impossibility of interracial marriage.

Calm down you lot ... its only a movie. I liked it.

There's no such thing as "only a movie." Movies are effective propaganda. They take advantage of our intuition that "seeing is believing" even when we possess the formal awareness that we are watching fiction.

Get a grip woman!
THE FAR HORIZONS is pure fiction, there is no propaganda whatsoever in it at all. You are being ridiculous now.

I already explained to you some of the ways in which the story is made to serve the narcissism of the American white male. Oh, and the Protocols of Zion was "pure fiction", too. So what?
