Where's YORK?!?!

Home of the Brave came out in 1949 staring James Edwards. Red Ball Express co-staring Sidney Poitier 1952. Hell, Roy Glen was in the "The Man in the Gray Flannel Suit" the scene in which Grogory Peck kills his buddy by (Friendly Fire) in 1956. York was William Clark's man-servant (PC slave!)and made invaluable contribution to the expedition on many occasions. Risking his life to save Clark in a flash flood. But I quest that wouldn't sell in 1950's USA?

See the Ken Burn's Doc for an update.

Well said. Just one more example of how far this movie is from the actual story of the Corp of Discovery.
Ken Burns did an excellent job. Anybody reading this would do well to watch that instead. Check out http://lewisandclarkcenter.org/. This is the site of the Discovery Expedition of St. Charles, Missouri, the group that recreated the entire trip.

Hah! When I saw Bill Walker (the Hancocks' servant), I immediately thought, "I guess Bill will be playing York. Can't wait to see him in a coonskin cap." Yeah, right.
May I bone your kipper, Mademoiselle?
