Ruth Roman

Did you know that actress Ruth Roman was aboard the ill- fated italian cruise ship "Andrea Doria" when it was struck in a fogbank off of New York by the freighter "Stockholm?"

The bow of the freighter sliced into a cabin several doors down the hall from hers...where she and her daughter were sleeping. A very close call, I would say. They were evacuated into a lifeboat before the Andrea Doria capsized and sank.

Hello cmdrcody, correction on your post; according to imdb
the wonderful Ruth Roman did not have a daughter. She was
with her son Richard "Dickie" Hall onboard the Andrea Doria
when it collided with the Stockholm in 1956. And she waited
on the pier at New York Harbor for her son who showed up
the very next day on another rescue ship.

Yes have heard any number of variations on the account of her escaping from the Andrea Doria.

Either way, glad for her and the other survivors. It must have been quite the experiance. IMO Ruth Roman is one of the most beautiful of women of the screen, if they were to make a movie of the sinking unsure who they could cast to play her character....

I stand corrected about her son aboard ship.

In any event, she sure looked good in her nightgown when she asked Jimmy Stewart to hop into bed with her: spurs and all !
