Here, not particularly though. The film has a pretty clever plot and sort of a Hitchcockian vibe going on, but it´s never as dark, surreal, perverse or funny as it should be and towards which it ostensibly tries. It also has way too much talking for a picture of this type as for the entire first hour one flat conversation follows another and thus the atmosphere is never allowed to properly develop. All in all it´s watchable, but miles away from anything special 6/10. Btw with each new Bunuel I see, I can only wonder more and more as to where his reputation as this ultimate surrealist actually comes from - besides, or after, Un Chien and, to a lesser extent, L´Age d´Or, any surrealist streak only rarely and sporadically surfaced in his work which was largely pretty linear and mundane. Sure, sometimes there are the surrealistically absurd premises like in El Angel Exterminador or Obscure Objet, but that´s way too few and far between for a figure with such a reputation as him. I guess, slightly paraphrasing Raoul Duke, with him it just never got weird enough. After all.
