Inspiration for “le ballon rouge”/“The Red Balloon”?

I find nothing on Google, but I find it strange that this celebrated French film was released in 1955, featuring a scene where a red balloon gets away from a kid and is shown sailing away...then this becomes the premise of a movie released in 1956, about an identical looking balloon.
