Is Tony bisexual?

The way Tony looked at Jo and played with his hair after he died is evidence of the unusually strong feelings of love he held for Jo, who was very handsome and much younger.

Obviously, Tony wasn't gay because he had relationships with women. I do wonder if the bisexuality would have been more explicit in a modern film where it doesn't have to be so hidden.

It's pretty weak evidence. It sounds like more compelling evidence of over-analysis of the movie on your part.

Sound like a case of "projection" on your part...

I'd say Tony was clearing away the dirt from Jo's hair and face, as a sign of respect for the dead-- but that's a case of "projection" on my part.

If you care enough to go around telling people you don't care... you obviously care.

It never ceases to amaze me how many posters perceive homosexuality in films whose concerns have nowt to do with the matter. It wasn't explicit but early on the film establishes Jo as Tony's protege in crime and that Tony is protective towards Jo. Such is the paternalness in the relationship that Tony is Tonio's godfather.

That's not possible, since bisexuality had not been invented yet in 1955! Jokes apart, homosexuality in movies was almost a taboo at the time, and the term "bisexual" was used perhaps only in psychology treatises. In the original book, BTW, there is no trace of such a kind of affection.
