There is a long list of films that should never be remade. This is one of them.

I don't know if they could either. There is really nothing wrong w/ the original. Remakes don't usually bother me. But I'd like to see Pacino use his talent for something new and original. I also think lackluster/undistingusted directors such as Becker should keep their hands off of classics.

how the hell is Pacino going to not shout insanely about great asses and corrupting Keanu Reeves for a whole thirty minutes? the total silence of the original Dassin heist set-piece is the main reason for the film's enduring popularity of course. surely somebody will hear him... although it would be an interesting take on the generically coded failure of the heist gang.

Part of its charm is it was made in France in teh 50s. The shots of the cars on the streets really was 50s France, not some lame CGI crap.

They can remake it all they want, I won't watch the remake.

I too do not normally like remakes. I think however in this case it is acceptable because the original is in French. I love this movie, but am interested in seeing Pacino's english version. I am looking forward to it.

I think a movie being in a language other than English is a terrible reason to remake it. Hollywood has made itself a laughingstock by taking masterpieces and remaking them as hollow cliches with bubblegum popping yanks playing the roles - (nikita, man facing southeast, open your eyes).

But I don't have any problem with remakes, the original doesn't vanish and it's everyone's choice which version to see and enjoy - I just know I'll never bother seeing this one if it is remade, since it already HAS been remade dozens of times - it's already been copied and canonized, any remake would be superfluous and simply riding on the original's cult status. The original is great for many reasons, but simply putting well known Hollywood icons in the story won't make it 'fresh' again.

this is all tone. a remake misses the point.

Did the remake with Pacino ever get made? I didn't find anything similar to it on his list of films.
