censored words

just watched the film - excellent suspense. wild.
but as a person who defends free speech to its maximum, I was disappointed that (my copy at least(criterion)) had at least 2 conversations briefly silenced out. they appeared to be a sexual comment I think.
The first part I noticed was after stefano whipped his quasi-girlfriend. he says something, but its silenced, and I can't even read lips b/c its in french.
and the other instance is in the last quarter of the film where I think its marios girlfriend comes in in a very revealing top, and she and he discuss something. my impression was that they were making plans for later to celebrate the heist.

if someone could let me in on this and make it public, Id appreciate it tremendously. It hurts to have these holes in the film!
were these censored out originally? did it have trouble showing in public for more than the copycat burglers?? thanks

I hadn't noticed those deletions, but I'll look again. I do know that the Criterion version, besides having been restored beautifully, contains much more footage than the heavily edited editions I saw in the 1960s.

there is a chance the dvd was dirty, ha. library edition.

I speak a little French, but Tony isn't the easiest to understand. I think it's "Fringue-toi" (Get dressed).

And in the scene with the sexy girlfriend, she just asks "Is everything alright?" and he says "Perfect. Run along now". Nothing spectacular.

The first one is definitly what MarxBrosFan wrote.

The second conversation is:
Mario:Vas te coucher ma petite = Go to sleep, baby
Girl:Toi, tu vas bien ? = Do you feel alright?
Mario:Oui, Comme un Pape. Vas, file.=Yeah, like a Pope. (french expression which means he feels reaaaaaaaal good) Now scram.

These may simply have been sound dropouts from the original English dub tape?
Or, I think the first "edit" may have been to take out the sound of the whipping- the sound is missing DURING this whipping.

I also noticed the second "edit", and reading the English subtitles, didn't notice anything too racy.

I watched the English dubbed Criterion version and not only noticed but was very disappointed by the apparently censored Region A release. Blu-ray.com clearly states "There are no audio dropouts or distortions to report in this review." They rate the soundtrack as 5 stars. Perhaps they only reviewed the subtitled option.
