The handling of shooting scenes is so weird in these movies

Characters just lift their gun in the most laziest manner - no aiming, no tension of the arm, and with a strange certainty that they'll hit their target. Almost like the bullets aim themselves.

In Rififi for example, there are absolutely no missed shots - despite often being at distance, and without any aiming whatsoever.

Great film, but these moments of supposed action always distract me a little with their strangeness.

Hays Code. It was mostly for American films, but censorship was pervasive during those times and there were ethos about the portrayal of crimes, especially murder that governed how they were portrayed in movies.
