The Asphalt Jungle is better than this imo

I think Huston's movie is a masterpiece.

reply

Neither are in competition, and they're both great.

reply

Liking one movie over another doesn't mean they're in competition.

reply

If you don't think the two films are in competition, why did you call this thread The Asphalt Jungle is better than this imo?

reply

Because I enjoy one more than the other.

Why is this difficult to understand?

reply

It isn't difficult to understand. What is difficult to understand is why you didn't call this thread I Prefer The Asphalt Jungle to Rififi.

reply

God I love your answer. I get so sick of 'is this better than that?' 'Do you like him more than the other him?'

Films are not in competition, we can like all of them, we don't need to rank them and have one be better than the other.

My opinion- I love Asphalt Jungle and Rififi and Touchez pas au Grisbi (another movie I thought was similar). I love them all and glad they were all made and don't like one more than the other.

reply

Yes, TAJ is clearly better, although Rififi has a better heist scene.

reply

I have both films. I purchased Rififi after purchasing The Asphalt Jungle. To me Rififi is the better film by far. American film noirs and heist films don't have the grit of the Foreign noirs and heist films, particularly the French ones. They are BOTH great films but if I had to choose it would be Rififi. Dassin took the elements of The Asphalt Jungle and expanded them. Its a masterpiece and in my opinion one of the greatest films every made and definitely the greatest heist film I have ever seen...

reply

It's not though. Rififi is actually quite a lot better than The asphalt Jungle. I'd never rewatch the latter unless some fine ass woman insists on watching it with me and even then, I'd suggest something else.

reply

I loved both films. I would probably agree that The Asphalt Jungle takes the edge, largely because of its unforgettable gallery of characters, but the heist in Rififi is among the most brilliantly constructed suspense sequences I have ever seen.

reply

I don't love either of them. Didn't live up to the hype. I actually enjoyed The Killing more than these two.
