The Remake

While i was watching this, I said to my friend this would make a good remake. I checked and it was a TV movie in 1967 with George Segal playing Glen. Segal was 33 when he played the role and Bogart was around 55. I had read that they made the role older for Humphrey Bogart to play it and also that it was his last tough guy role. He died in 1957 though. I thought he did great and he aged well. He didn't for a second seem too old or out of place in the role.

If there was a remake today I think they should get Woody Harrelson maybe? Or Brad Pitt when he's crazy like in the old days in Kalifornia.

They also did this movie in the 90's with Mickey Rourke and Anthony Hopkins.
IMO it was a disaster. If they did it today I would say don't.
The original was good enough.

I remember now that you say it that they did the movie again in the 90s. Again would surely be overkill, especially if you say it was a disaster!
So crazy though how many movies are remade and no one even realizes.

I didn't like it. Doesn't mean it wasn't good. It's just my opinion. But it really wasn't

I keep finding movies every month that I didn't know were remakes.
This is sore subject with me. I may have made a post about it. I've never seen a remake that I like better.
This lead us to discuss maybe it matters which one you see first.
Some things are good enough the first time around I don't see the point in doing them again.
It also bothers me when directors remake their own movies. I have to stop now. My blood pressure just went up.

reply

I didn't mind the remake too much. It just wasn't nearly so good as this one in my opinion.
