Count Three and Pray

I saw this movie when it was originally released. It is one of the best
Van Heflin movies. I dont understand why it isn't shown more on television
and why its not available on tape or DVD.

Kind of different in that it's a western in which barely a shot is fired in anger. And there haven't been too many westerns focussing on "them thar preachers." Pale Rider is my personal favourite, though Clint Eastwood does less preaching than Van Heflin does in this one.

I found the story rather slight and I'm still not sure of the implicit threat in the title of the film. After seeing it, I'm still asking myself "C3&P for what or from whom. I'm not really sure. Raymond Burr was a slick, oily villain...who really didn't seem to threaten too many people. And Joanne Woodward only seemed to carry one note through her performance. Recommended for only the mildly interested.

I was 6 years old when someone took my cousin and I to see this great movie back around 1955 or 56. It was 1st movie I ever saw in a theater. I couldn't read title on screen or knew names of actors but I always remember it as a western about some guy who wanted to build a church. I finally found it again in recent years when it was shown on a cable westerns channel and I watched with a totally new perspective!
