From a 2106 perspective

The Colditz story (not this movie) is pretty irrelevant. I mean the chaps live in this cool castle ... eat well ... put on concerts ... play soccer ... and play cat & mouse with the Germans and nobody gets killed! Kinda looks like a good way to ride out the war. Meanwhile Europe is going down in flames and the continent is being scrubbed of millions.

Compare Colditz to some of the Japanese POW camps like Changi or the Death Camps and you conclude that these boys where downright lucky.

So ya from a 2016 perspective ... as we look back at the war that took 60 to 80,000,000 lives ... the Colditz story is kinda fun and hardly worth worth telling.
