I also know someone who was in the film. Did you ever get your copy?

reply

My grandfather (Ned Aylward) played Big Tom in the film. I have a copy at home, although I think it is a TV recording transferred to DVD, so the quality isn't the best.

This title has been released on DVD in CinemaScope in Spain. It is Region 2 so you will need a multi-regional DVD player and a multi-system TV for the PAL signal. The print looks excellent from what I have seen. Cheers, Mike ([email protected])

I've just received my Spanish CinemaScope DVD of Captain Lightfoot from an amazon.com market place seller and the picture and sound quality are excellent. It has English dialogue, but I can't as yet find a way to turn off the Spanish subtitles, as the menu screen is printed in Spanish. But I'm working on it. The film was shot fifty-five years ago in Ireland in 1954 and there can't be many of the adult cast and crew still around by this time and I didn't notice any children in it, either. If they were any, they'd probably still be around, although they'd be in their sixties and seventies by now.

Hi David,
You may have worked it out by now, but in case you need help:
Go to "idiomas" on the Main menu,
click on "ingles", then " sin subtitulos", The dvd then plays the English language track with no subtitles. (Some foreign dvds sadly do not give this option!). Cheers, Mike Evans

Hi, Mike, sorry for the delay in thanking you for your post, but I haven't looked at the Captain Lightfoot section of my message boards for a while. Anyway, I just followed your instructions above and it works perfectly and I was able to switch off the Spanish subtitles. Many Thanks from David.

This movie is now available on Region 1 (USA) DVD from TCM and Universal Studios.
Go to the website for TCM.com and look it up, and you can order it online. The print quality is excellent, the Technicolor and wide screen are beautiful.
