Women, and people in general, in those times were much more mature than today. Especially if their childhood was scarred by war. They just had to grow up early. And today's kids... They are overprotected by their parents, the schools, society... Parents drive them everywhere, TV and internet are babysitters and tutorials for everything, they don't do anything constructive in the outside world, so of course they end up slow-witted..

One thing I noticed: they all move well. They move easily and gracefully, with an awareness of their bodies that isn't vanity so much as sensuousness. It is very alluring and something rarely seen onscreen these days and even more rare in real life.
