It is a good movie but it had the idea that many movies had like High Noon where the hero is deserted by the townspeople and friends. Besides this movie Fred McMurray played other movies inspired by High Noon which were Day of the Bad Man and Good Day for a Hanging. The thing is that these movies worked and were very enjoyable.

Some people have pointed out to me that the Fred MacMurray western Face of a Fugitive is also similar. I never thought of it that way because I thought of it as Fred taking on the bad guys near the end of the movie to take care of the Sheriff rather than being deserted but still interesting ideas.
