No DVD?

I started watching the on Encore Western and the pan-and-scan was so horrible I just could watch it. I figured nothing lost. I'll just get it on NetFlix. Nope. Not there nor Amazon to buy. Has it ever been released on DVD or tape?

It was shown here in the UK on the Film 4 movie channel this afternoon (Tuesday, January 12th, 2010) in 16 x 9 wide screen. Not full CinemaScope width, but far better than pan and scan and a good, clear print.

This great movie has never been released on either tape or DVD, and you're right, it's almost unwatchable in full-frame. However, we might be in luck. The Warners Archive Collection has released a few Allied Artists westerns over the past couple of years since its inception, and each week I look in their "new releases" category for this one. Hopefully my anticipation will pay off someday.

Here is a suggestion and the more of us that follow it the more likely we are to have success. I watch the Turner Classics Movie channel schedule closely for westerns to watch. TCM makes sure and advertises no commercial breaks and no cutting of films. Plus..if you go on their website (The Fan Community part) you can request certain movies to be broadcast. I have found that when I request films with pretty good reason those films often show up on the channel a few months later.. I especially request titles that are not on video, or not on dvd, and the vhs is really scarce and expensive. So, this film would be ideal to request from TCM because it has never been released on video and if TCM shows it they will show it in wide screen. So, everyone, please contact TCM and request this title be broadcast. (I do not understand everything about what TCM has rights to but I have been told they broadcast from their vast holdings but also, to some degree, pay for the rights to broadcast movies for which TCM does not own the rights. If anyone can elaborate on this information please do so. Thanks.)

And, here it is, May of 2016 and still no DVD. I do notice that someone has it playing the full film on YouTube. Guess that is our option at this time. BTW...in case some of you do not know....it was filmed in Cinemascope.
