Is this a family movie?

And is it a sad one. I hear the ending has the abusive owners return home? That does'nt sound so bad, maybe they're just asking for another a s-kicking from the animals?

It's definately not a "family" movie... It's very political and dark, with killing and such... Kids just wouldn't get it. They might enjoy the cartoon animals, but other that, I wouldn't recommend it for kids.

A voice from about a decade later sounds out:

"This is not a family movie. The trivia section points out that, in the 1950s, some parents actually took their kids to see it, because the posters and such kind of made it look like a bit like a Disney movie. Those families were upset by the film, the kids were not old enough to understand it."
