You posters do know this movie was re-made only GAYER?

This movie was recycled by Tod Haynes as "Far from Heaven" with Julianne Moore in 2002.

In that movie, Julianne's husband played by Dennis Quaid IS GAY. Then Julianne falls in love with Dennis Haysbert - so of course vicious MONA wags her tongue all over 1950s suburbia and gets Julianne's reputation tainted.

There's even a drunk party guest who comes onto Julianne in the remake!

"Don't call me 'honey', mac."
"Don't call me 'mac'... HONEY!"

They left it set in the 50's, gay husband & they made the gardner African American GASP! SHOCKING! Lol I've got to see this film. Thanks for mentioning this film that was a tribute to Sirk's work.

It's sorta like it.

It was also remade only... MORE GERMAN! http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0071141/ I think both version ultimately outdo the original.

So glad I missed that one. And judging by its popularity, so are quite a few people. Ugh.

Far from Heaven is excellent. It was filmed in CT the fall of 2001. I don't know if people remember, but it was an autumn of perfect autumn weather. It seemed so odd that the weather after 9-11 was so lovely.

I love Far from Heaven! That film was gorgeous, like a painting. A lot of it was also filmed in New Jersey, my home state, which has beautiful autumn foliage. The cinematography and visual style of a movie can elevate it to a higher level, imo.

But I will say that it was more 'melodramatic' than an actual Sirk film!
