Didn't sound like he was born in North Dakota
Didn't he have some kind of accent?
shareI have an uncle from North Dakota who sounds a lot like Lawrence. He is also the son of German immigrants and must be about ninety now. Although German is Welk's first language, I've heard that he sometimes exaggerated his accent. Having studied German I can sometimes pick up on those quirks. Norma Zimmer is sometimes pronounced Tsimmer as the German word for room which is Zimmer.
