VERY hard to believe, but Broderick Crawford was 43 years old when HP debuted in 1955!

(he was born Dec 1911 and the show premiered Oct 1955.)

He looks a lot older, eh? It's said alcohol accelerates an aged appearance.

That's very true, especially these days.

As for Crawford...when I used to watch HP reruns as a kid, I thought he must be at least 100. At least!

Alcohol does speed up the aging process physically. One of my alcoholic uncles (I had three) was only 52 when he died but looked like he was in his mid 60s.
