Bob Keeshan is listed in the IMDb casting page as having played the Captain in "141" episodes "from 1955 to 1981." The show ran on weekday mornings. lasting until 1992. There had to have been hundreds and hundreds more of appearances by Keeshan than what's listed.
(Another "Captain" later appeared in a short-lived, Captain Kangaroo relaunch.)
They also have Mr. Green Jeans as only appearing in 21 episodes and not until 1967. I was born in 1956 and grew up watching the Captain AND Mr. Green jeans. I know he was in earlier than '67 and he was on very regularly
shareThis is a common problem with IMDB so it's not just with Captain Kangaroo. I really don't think it's going to be fixed since it happens so often. I just wonder where they come up with these figures!
shareThey are only counting episodes they can confirm, there's never been an actual log of CK episodes and I wouldn't imagine it's much of a priority at IMDb to build up this data. What they list for CK is what they can confirm in records (mainly from guest stars publicity) and while the number of episodes continue to grow (it's up to 326 now) since CK aired five times a week for 29 years, that's well over 6,000 episodes one can safely conclude were produced!
