STILL no complete DVD release

How is it possible a show of this stature has not had a proper, complete anthology release on DVD? Given the waning popularity of the DVD format at this point, I assume it's probably not going to happen? :(

reply

My guess is that the first 3 seasons that were released didn't sell well enough to justify them continuing putting them out. As a giant fan of this show I'm really annoyed by this, especially since my two favorite episodes (Man from the South and An Unlocked Window) were in later seasons.

(Man from the South and An Unlocked Window)

Excellent taste, Mark.

And yet, you can probably find all the seasons of Desperate Housewives or some other dreck quite readily. Unbelievable. X(

reply

I don't know which country you live in, but here in the US SIX seasons have been released (season six is in MOD
format) "The Man From the South" is in season five, which was released several years ago in the USA.

I agree that it's terrible they didn't complete this (I, personally, couldn't care less about the hour-length shows,
despite some good episodes. They just feel lumpy and padded to me, just like the hour-long "Twilight Zones.").

Furthermore, this show should start coming out in Blu Ray format (season one REALLY needs some serious
restoration, as they are quite blemished).

Probably won't happen.

Thanks for the info, I was under the impression that only 3 seasons had been released. Not sure if there was a lengthy gap between seasons 3 and 4 and I gave up or if I was just plain clueless. Either way it's good news for me and I will be ordering seasons 4 and 5 asap! As for the hour long episodes I would love to have An Unlocked Window so I'm disappointed they aren't available.

Incidentally if you have Amazon Prime and want to see a different version of Man from the South, check out Roald Dahl's Tales of the Unexpected, season 1, episode 1 (episode 4 is Lamb to the Slaughter which had also been done on AHP).

I think you can get seasons 1 to 7 from the UK. But you'll probably need a universal disc player or a UK region player.

reply

They make universal disc players? I've never heard of that before.

reply

"The Case of Mr. Pelham" and "Don't Come Back Alive" are among my favs (the first season is full of winners).

How inferior shows like "Knight Rider" and "Full House" have all their seasons available on DVD but not Hitchcock's frequently inspired anthology is beyond me.

reply

They used to, not much anymore. Some players can be modified to accept discs from any region, but it's easier to just have two players, which is what I've done.

I'm surprised there is no US release of the full series for Hitchcock Presents. Quite the omission!
