I think the series that comes closest is probably Kraft Suspense Theatre:

AHP was drama, mystery, suspense and has little in common with the hokey
"One Step Beyond" (supernatural), "Outer Limits" (sci fi) and "Tales
From the Dark Side." The closest is TZ, but only on extreme occasion.

Go *beep* yourself. I'm replying to the topic in general. Get over
it.

So you're not only lazy and inconsiderate, but also rude. Guess I'll just put you on my ignore list so I won't be bothered by your errant posts.

"Tales of the Unexpected", based on stories by Roald Dahl, seems to be of this general genre. I've only seen a couple episodes so far, but the flavor seems very comparable. The US DVD's seem to be going/have gone out of print and are a bit pricy; but if you have, or are willing to get, a region-free DVD player that accommodates PAL DVD's, the complete box set is available on Amazon UK. There may be copies on Amazon US, but they may be more expensive than buying from the UK directly.

Also, the UK series "Thriller" was a similar suspense series, not to be confused with the US "Thriller" with Boris Karloff. Ditto on availability and disk-playing requirements.

Thriller that anthology series hosted by Boris Karloff was inspired by AHP but focused more on Gothic horror.

I like Twilight Zone, and Outer Limits , but those are more sci fi. Thriller is closer to AHP . Although occassionally, the Zone would do a Hitchcock-esque episode, and vice versa. 'Consider Her Ways' from the Alfred Hitchcock Hour feels very Zone. As does Human Interest Story, the one with Steve McQueen as the Martian

You can try the "Naked City" (1958–1963) tv series. In case you haven't heard of it, its a crime drama set in New York City.

I like them.

I would consider The Twilight Zone as the nearest.

This plot is so similar to that of the film "Mr. Sardonicus", in which a greedy wife insists that her husband disinter his father's corpse because the old man had a winning lottery ticket in his pocket. (Of course, the outcomes are decidedly different...!)

The Twilight Zone & Thriller (1970s not the Boris Karloff version).
